Since its inception, Roseate Hotels & Resorts has been collaborating with people and making projects which are culturally relevant.
Roseate X THUKRAL & TAGRA
The artists live and work in Gurugram, Haryana. Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra work collaboratively in a wide variety of media including painting, sculpture, installation, film and design.
Thukral & Tagra blur the lines between fine art and popular culture, product placement and exhibition design, artistic inspiration and media hype. Their works comment on the globalization of consumer culture and the repercussions of this as it is being experienced in India today. While both playful and humorous, their works express thoughtful questions about the nature of Indian identity as it is articulated by Indians themselves and projected on to India by the rest of the world.
Seeing hospitality as an opportunity to make a community, this intervention was proposed:
This house has been perceived as a book. Like pages made of walls, the characters are breathing. Windows are illustrations, the doors are viewfinders which bridge between different chapters. A day is a paragraph, or sometimes just a realization. The protagonist is the reader and the writer as well.
A performance piece which functions across a day, like a story of babel with expressions of emotions, anxiety and comfort.
Thukral and Tagra 2016_____ongoing
Continuing our quest for dreams and reveries, 'Bathtub' was conceived. The series revolves around exploring the idea of a journey both inwards and outwards. In 2012 we were invited to work at Edition Copenhagen, a print studio that has specialized in lithography for over 50 years. Starting as a simple series of writing small stories, two works were conceived. Adopting the same techniques, we created six works, with enlarged pages of passports exclusively for Roseate House.
The idea was to create works that have been inspired by real stories. From the layers of ‘Bathtub’ to the design direction, things were knitted in to a continuous narrative, which compliments each chapter making it an interesting read. The project builds up an exciting storyline, an essence of which can be seen throughout, taking over two years to evolve.
Keeping in mind the concept of being a 'host' under these precarious times, another project called 'i am present' was conceived.
